• Idle Hands Are The ‘Devil Wears Prada’ Workshop

Hello Everyone! Apologies for not touching base sooner (I hope this doesn’t read like an email!) but these first few weeks back at the No Shop/No Spend game have really had its ups and downs. I am very proud to say that I have not spent one dime on anything frivolous so far, although the urge has been so high lately. We are coming up on my favorite time of year- Fall (or in Texas what we refer to as Hotumn), and my old habit of stalking every website to see what new Halloween decor items get released is a very hard habit to kick. I LOVE Halloween. It really…

  • The Return of the Recessionista

Well, hello there.   It has been a bit since I have been back to this lovely little neck of the internet, hasn’t it? When I decided to start this blog back in 2019, the only major dilemma I was personally facing was not eating myself out of my wedding gown. And after the events of the past couple of years and my steady diet of comfort foods (pasta, cheese, and wine of all kinds) I guarantee I would need some extra help zipping up that dress. What is there to say about this current decade that hasn’t already been said? (That is a rhetorical question, please do not start…

  • Why I’m A Failure And Why That’s Okay

No, I didn’t already break down and shop. It’s only been 8 days. I have a little more self control than that…I think. But I do have a little confession to make. This is not the first time I have attempted the No Shopping Challenge. Or the second. Or even the third quite possibly if I’m being honest.   For this post I wanted to share with you what I learned from the first time I failed at the NSC (no shopping challenge) and how I feel looking back on everything that went down. The first time I attempted to only “shop my closet” was way back in 2015. I…

  • Putting the “gal” in Frugal

This past week I gave myself the task of cleaning out my “second closet” in an attempt to take inventory of every piece of clothing that could be hiding in our house. I dusted off my old portable rolling rack that I used in my retail days, shimmied every item out of the closet and onto the line, and saw my life flash before my eyes as the rack began to buckle under the weight of my wardrobe and topple towards me. I can see it now: death by denim. (Sounds like a rather forlorn Country song if you ask me).     Oh I’m sorry. What is a “second…

  • The Solution To Your New Year’s Resolution

New Year’s plans are somewhat of an internal struggle for me. I am always torn between going out amongst the celebrators wearing a cute party dress and sipping champagne…or staying at home away from the crazies and watching the ball drop in queso stained comfy pants with a screw top bottle of moscato.  This years’s lucky winner: tamales, noise makers, and pink champagne on the couch with the fiancé and cats (comfy pants implied).     Resolution. Ya know, the older I get, the more I dislike that word.  But while my plans for December 31st seem to change year to year, two thing are for certain: I will make…

  • Taking The First Step Into My No Shopping Challenge

You would think that I would decide to start this challenge after purchasing some extravagant luxury item, that I would give myself one last splurge to purchase that designer handbag I’ve been eyeing (It’s a Henri Bendel if you were wondering) or stock up on skinny jeans in every color just in case mine get ruined in the next 12 months. Well it wasn’t a new designer purse (goodbye forever you sweet satchel) and if I end up ruining all of my denim this year, I guess I’ll just have to finish this challenge in comfy pants (anything considered to be stretchy and inappropriate for brunching). Well folks, I am…
