“I’m just a girl, standing in front of a closet, asking it to give me something new to wear.”

Hey there and welcome to Thrifty Thirtysomething! I’m Macy Stromberg, the mastermind behind this website and the owner of too much stuff!
Starting in January of 2019, I am embarking on a year-long No Shopping Challenge in the hopes of learning how to love what I already have more. I am giving up retail therapy for being thrifty and finding ways to wear everything in my closet.
I hope to use this blog as a way to share my experiences as I learn to be more thrifty and aware of my financial spending. In our society, it is easy to get swept up in material items rather than experiences and memories.
Check out my blog and be sure to subscribe to make sure you don’t miss out on my outfit creations, thrift hacks, and more!
Let’s Play 20 Questions
- Where Are You From: Arlington, Texas. But now I call Austin home.
- Favorite Movie: Without a doubt Clueless. My dream is still to have a rotating closet like Cher.
- Favorite Thrift Store Find: That’s a hard one. I would have to say my French Provincial nightstand I found for $19 at a Thriftown. Or my 1970’s Sutton Plaza flats. Vintage shoes in my size are hard to find!
- Coffee Order: Dirty Chai Tea Latte…the bigger the better.
- Morning Or Night: Sunset and on. I used to be a morning person but ever since I started working from home that has changed.
- Favorite Color: Black. Has been since I was 6.
- Best Vacation: As a girl who loves to travel this question is hard. Either Chicago or New Orleans. Both have wonderful restaurants and the nightlife in both cities is amazing!
- Something Random About You: I used to be a competitive roller skater. I was actually pretty good at it, but I fell and broke my arm at a competition and never touched the skates again after that.
- Favorite Holiday: Halloween or Valentine’s Day…mainly for the reason they both give me the opportunity to buy discounted candy the day after.
- Summer Or Winter: Fall
- Favorite Item In Your Home: Anything that is vintage or antique. I know that isn’t a specific item, but I love decorating our house with items that have character.
- One Place You Want To Travel To: Just one?! All the places then! Europe is number one on the list of dream vacations. I would love to visit New York in the fall. Greece, Sweden, Spain…I want multiple stamps in my passport.
- Favorite Designers: Christian Siriano is a big favorite of mine. Carolina Herrera is another iconic designer I adore. And for more of an indie designer I love Tuesday Bassen out of Los Angeles will always have my heart.
- Is This Your First Blog: Actually NO! When I first moved to Austin I had a blog called The Lit Chick. It was really just a blog of my musings around town and random thoughts/topics that came to my mind. It’s still up I think.
- Where Did You Go To College: The University of Texas at Arlington. I worked for the school paper, The Shorthorn, as a columnist for 2 years and loved it.
- Favorite Accessory: A set of pearls…or a smile.
- What Craft Would You Love To Learn: I would love to know how to sew. I know a lot of people who have this skill and I am so envious at what they can create with just a sketch and a pattern.
- Your Most Regrettable Purchase: Any pair of uncomfortable shoes. While I tried to think of one singular item, I really couldn’t pinpoint anything I would call frivolous or regrettable. But uncomfortable footwear…that has to be the craziest thing I sunk money into.
- Favorite Inexpensive Makeup Brand: NYX is a all time favorite inexpensive makeup brand. I love their lipsticks. My go-to color is Root Beer Float. I wear it all the time.
- One Thing You Refuse To Give Up In Your Year Of No Shopping: I have thought about this going into my year of no shopping. I really do not want to give up my streaming services like Hulu, Netflix, and Pandora and my monthly subscription of Vogue Magazine (yes, I still get print magazines).
